This Alocasia Heart Balloon Mint Variegata is supplied as a bulb. Once sprouted the plant shows rounded, heart-shaped and slightly domed leaves with cool mint-green lightening.
 
Bright position, indirect light, temperature steady above 18 °C, no draughts. Alocasia reacts sensitively to sudden changes of position and occasionally answers with leaf loss. That too is reversible: as long as the tuber is firm, the plant will push new growth.
 
The variegation is sectoral. Every new leaf develops its own pattern: sometimes a pronounced half-moon, sometimes a mostly green leaf, sometimes a very pale one. This variation is inherent to the mechanism and cannot be controlled through care. The node tells you more than the current leaf: shoots emerging from variegated tissue are more likely to carry the pattern forward.
 
Instead of a finished plant you receive the bulb. Sprouting takes two to eight weeks depending on cultivar, warmth and season, longer in winter. Keep warm, evenly moist, and press it in only halfway. We do not guarantee sprouting — that is standard for rhizomes and the reason for the considerably lower price compared with an established plant.
