The Alocasia Nebula Variegata combines the striking, metallic grey to dark green leaf structure of the Nebula with high-contrast pale variegated areas. Depending on the specimen, cream, white, mint and sometimes pink nuances appear.
Alocasia forms tubers and stores its reserves there. From autumn many cultivars drop leaves, some retreating entirely to the bulb — this is natural dormancy, not a care failure. Keep warm, water considerably less, do not feed or repot. In spring it pushes new growth from the tuber.
The variegation is sectoral. Every new leaf develops its own pattern: sometimes a pronounced half-moon, sometimes a mostly green leaf, sometimes a very pale one. This variation is inherent to the mechanism and cannot be controlled through care. The node tells you more than the current leaf: shoots emerging from variegated tissue are more likely to carry the pattern forward.
You receive a rooted, already established plant. In the first one to two weeks after arrival it may pause its growth or show slight leaf stress; this passes once it has settled into its new position. Heavily variegated tissue is more vulnerable in transit than green tissue.
